Is There a Correct Way of Living?

fulfillment happiness life Aug 05, 2022

There is no correct way of living life. Everyone has their unique path to follow, and there is no set formula for success. Some people live a conventional lifestyle, while others prefer to blaze their trail. It's up to you how you want to live your life; there are no right or wrong answers. So don't let anyone else tell you how to live; only you can decide what's best for you.

What is living a good life for you?

Ask anybody what life is, and you will get different answers depending on someone's view. But, biologically speaking, life can refer to the vital processes that keep our bodies running and our capacity for growth and reproduction. On the other hand, life will have different interpretations regarding its philosophical meaning. Moreover, people will also have various means of living life. All these variations can make it complicated to define what exactly life is and how one should live it.

Society has created a template for how one can live life. It goes like this:

  • You get born in this world and raised by your parents as you still learn the workings of this world. While in this stage, you are most curious and wonder what's happening around you.
  • Once you reach a certain age (around five), you start to go to school and learn many things about how stuff works. So you spend around two decades of your life going to school, from elementary to high school and college. You eventually graduate (around in your twenties) and are now ready to enter the working force.
  • After graduating from school, it's time to look for a job. During this phase, things can become complicated, depending on what position you get or the career you pursue. While working, you also have to balance it with your responsibilities as an adult. There's also the prospect of finding someone to marry so you can start a family.
  • One of the common goals to pursue while working is to have your car and house someday. Aside from these two, you may also fill your life with various possessions, such as gadgets. You continue working and doing your responsibilities until you reach the age where you are old already and ready for retirement (around your sixties).
  • Once you are retired, it's time to enjoy life and do things you wanted to do until the time comes for you to leave this world.

Most of us follow the template outlined above on how to proceed with life. It's the tried and tested path to follow unless you feel that there can be more of life outside this template. The learning-in-school stage is something that all of us will need to do, as we need to equip ourselves with knowledge and skills to help us get through this world. After that, it gets challenging, as a much bigger world opens up, and it's up to us what path to follow. If you can't figure out your course, you can follow the standard way we outlined above. However, at any moment when you realize that you want to do something else, you can deviate from the traditional path and craft your course of life. Few people can do this because it takes courage, effort, and a lot of soul-searching to pursue your way of living. Again, we are not saying that the standard path is wrong, nor is your chosen path wrong. Ultimately, you will decide if your way of living is right.

The path towards a meaningful life

If you feel that the standard of living many people follow is not suitable for you, you can create your way of living. Of course, you still need to be equipped with the knowledge and make sure your path allows you to earn money to buy what you want and need, but you will dictate the methods and how you live your life. If you feel like making big changes to your life and living life to the fullest, you must remember several things.

Take a moment for some soul-searching. People who can follow their dreams and passions and have a lifestyle different from usual are the ones who know themselves and what they want in life. So look at your life now, and ask yourself if you feel satisfied and happy with what you do. If yes, that's fine as long as life works for you. If not, you better start living according to your terms and do something else to help you find satisfaction. The path towards your unique way of living begins with knowing who you are, what you want in life, and what things can give you fulfillment and satisfaction. And to help you figure out these things, take a moment or a break for a single day to do some soul-searching.

Be willing to step out of the box. So many limits can prevent us from chasing our wildest dreams and living fulfilling lives. There's social pressure, the resources available, our current skillset and knowledge, limiting beliefs, and the current opportunities available to us. These limits will stay the way they are unless you start taking action towards changing your life. That's why it is essential to discover yourself and what you want out of life, as they will serve as the motivation to overcome limits preventing you from living a fulfilling life. You will be more willing to step out of your comfort zone if you know what you want in life.

Take action and make gradual changes. Going against the usual flow of life can be fearful for many of us. We don't know what will happen if we try to do something different, which may fail. However, not trying to do something also prevents us from seeing the possible opportunities that can give us greater joy and fulfillment. Having the idea of living life differently from others doesn't have to happen overnight. It's something that you do by making gradual changes to your life. Implement one small change at a time, see if it works, and if it does, proceed to the following change you want to make. Making gradual changes is to help you be comfortable living your new lifestyle and ensure that it is still beneficial to you while following your passions and dreams. It takes time and effort, but eventually, you can create your way of living if you keep at it and never let yourself get discouraged when something doesn't happen your way, which you may encounter on your path towards forging a new life suited for you.

Living life is up to you.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to living life. Although all of us need to learn and have a means of earning money, how we do these things and what we ultimately want to do in life depend on us. We can get ideas from others, see if they appeal to you, and figure out your way of doing things. A good life consists of having the time to do what you want while also having the means to earn money sufficiently and utilizing your unique way of doing things, all while feeling fulfilled and happy. It can differ for every person, and the only way to find out is by taking the initiative to look for what can make you feel good and fulfilled. Others may dictate or give you suggestions on how to live your life, but it's up to you to decide what to pursue to gain satisfaction and happiness.
