Today we’re going to discuss career and business relationships. These tips will help you create lasting relationships that will last a lifetime.

Drainers, Maintainers and Propellers

Relationships are crucial. It is important to regularly work at building relationships. They are the building blocks of our lives and businesses. The key to building great relationships is understanding the different types of people that we interact with. 

There are three types of people. Drainers, Maintainers, and Propellers.
Drainers are people who suck the energy out of you.  Maintainers are people who could become Drainers.  Propellers are the people who propel you forward. They are the people who will take you to the next level.

So we want to work at building really good relationships with people who are Propellers –  people who will propel us forward with good energy.

How do we find Propellers?

Start by seeking out people of value. This can be hard, because it takes time and patience to find people of value. We live in a society that is focused on materialism and a mindset of lack. There are many people who are selfish, and those people get more by taking from others.

Givers vs. Takers

We often think of businesses like a pie. Everybody in a business has a certain percentage of the pie. Many people are competing to take other people’s pieces of the pie. 

We want to be different.  Givers grow the pie so that everybody’s business grows. We want to work with people who are willing to help others grow the pie, instead of being competitive.

We need to profile the people that we meet, and we always need to think, is this somebody I can work together with to make things happen? Do they have good energy? We use discernment so that we can work with high value people.

Use Systems

Systems are how we build really strong relationships.   We need a system to use to connect with people. If possible, we want to get to know people face to face.  Social media is an easy way to connect with people you  when you have already built a relationship with face to face.  Social media is not such a great system to use to start a new relationship. 

A mastermind group is a great way to meet high quality people.  This is because the people there are usually pre-veted before they join the mastermind.  They usually need to have similar interests and goals as other members of the mastermind. 

Mastermind groups are a great way to meet very diverse people.
It takes time to get to know people, and build a good relationships. 

Go where the Propellers Are

Sometimes, you have to go where the propellers are.  Propellers aren’t always comfortable to be around.  They are the pioneers, the doers, the people who are trying to do something and are going out and making it happen!

Look for people who are doing, building, creating.  Try to meet like minded people who are working to do great things.  Think: Who are your propellers? Who are your trusted advisors? Who is helping you to move forward?

We’ve got to build good relationships to help our careers and businesses move forward.
