If you want to make $75,000 or $175,000 but don’t have any compelling reasons why, you will not be inclined to act. Or, you might take some action, but then become easily discouraged. However, if you determine that $75,000 will allow you to pay off one of your debts, increase your savings, take your family on a much needed vacation, or start a college fund, then you suddenly have a very strong reason to get into action.
Maybe paying off a debt will allow you to pay more towards a second debt, thereby speeding up the payoff of all of your debts. Imagine being completely debt free! What would you do with all that additional money? Start padding your savings account? Create an emergency fund? Donate to a cause?
Or, maybe you and your spouse have been dreaming for that perfection vacation filled with warm ocean waters and beautiful sunsets? How good would it feel to create financial abundance? The good news is, you can. But it’s crucial that you begin to focus on those why’s.
Long before he was a world-renown bodybuilder, and 7-time Mr. Olympia, Arnold Schwarzenegger practiced visualization to reach his goals. “I had this fixed idea of growing a body like [famous bodybuilder] Reg Park’s. The model was there in my mind; I only had to grow enough to fill it. The more I focused on this image and worked and grew, the more I saw it was real and possible for me to be like him” he explains. Later, when he successfully transitioned into acting and politics, Arnold used the same technique. “It’s the same process I used in bodybuilding: What you do is create a vision of who you want to be —and then live that picture as if it were already true.” Success people have a vision in their minds of who they want to be and what exactly it is they want.
When you imagine being on vacation or being debt free, use at least two of your senses to really experience the feeling. Remember, your brain can’t tell the difference between an imagined experience and a real one. So, close your eyes and take a moment to really feel what it will be like. The more time you spend in this state of actually experiencing these achievements, the more momentum you will have towards your goals. The top achievers of the world typically visualize at least once per day, and you can harness the power of this secret by doing the same thing. Create powerful why’s in your life and they will pull you forward towards your dreams.
Get into action!
- List each of your goals and ask yourself why they are important to you. Write down your whys right next to each goal.
- Close your eyes and picture yourself accomplishing each goal. See the zero balance on your debt. See that huge savings account balance. See yourself and your family taking that vacation, getting on the plane, checking in to the hotel, playing in the sand, enjoying the sunsets, and being together.
- Share your list with someone close to you for extra accountability.
