Episode 2889 Health Is Wealth
[00:00:00] Good morning and welcome to Morning Coach today. I am so glad you’re with us. As you know, my name is J.B. Glossinger, and this is your personal evolution system, the place to get your day started right. Welcome, welcome, welcome, and I’m so glad you’re with me today. We’re rocking and rolling here, having some fun. I mean, there are so many cool things going on. I know it is Tuesday, and it feels like a Monday. Well, you could be in Australia, could be Wednesday, right? But the truth is it feels like the start of the week because we’re coming out of the holiday season. And I know those days. Right? So, it is Tuesday; it’s not Monday. Just to remind you.
[00:00:47] But it is kind of the start of the week, and we’ve got a great week planned. If you didn’t get a chance to listen yesterday, we’re getting into health. And today, we’re going to really talk about Health as Wealth. And then we’re going to get into some morning routines. I got an interview this week. Some really cool things coming on. M/M is getting ready to launch, which is Mindfulness and Meditation for Busy Professionals. You’re going to love for, love that. And the new website’s really rockin’. And so we got some really cool things happening here, and I’m pumped to bring them to you as we help you in both areas, right, creating more health and creating wealth. I want you to get both of those things working for you.
[00:01:23] To get in today’s topic, I want to start it off with a little poem. Every once in a while I like to read a poem, right? It kind of takes you back a little bit. I’m not much of a poet, but, but, hey, let’s, let’s get into poetry today. A very quick one. It says this, “To get his wealth,/ he spent his health,/ and then with might and main,/ he turned around and spent his wealth/ to get his health again.” Let me read it one more time, “To get his wealth,/ he spent his health,/ and then with might and main,/ he turned around and spent his wealth/ to get his health again.” And I love that poem because I think it’s so true that so many of us really just kind of grind it out and spend our health to get wealth. But we don’t realize that the key is health is wealth. Like health is the most important part, because without health, it doesn’t matter what you have. It doesn’t matter how much money, it doesn’t matter how much prestige, it doesn’t matter how much posture and presence you have without your health. We’re, we’re in trouble, right? And so I know for a fact, there’s a direct correlation for me that when my health is better, my wealth is better.
[00:02:37] And I want to help you this week, I want to help you today to really get us into a place where we are working on our health. It’s kind of ironic that we’re talking about this as I’m dealing with kind of one of my health issues, a dental health issue, and going through that right now. And it is what it is. I mean, at some point, you just got to get through whatever it is that you’re getting through. You know, we have people here that are battling cancer and getting through it. We have people who are like me, dealing with dental issues. We have people that have had accidents and other issues happen in their life. And you know what? We’re all fighting the fight together, and, no matter what, we’ve just got to do what we can, right, to keep our health where we need it to be. Whatever we’re dealing with this current moment. And sometimes you have health challenges, and you got to let things heal, or you got to be proactive against them and, and focus on getting better. It is what it is with health. That’s the way it works. It is what it is with everything, even gaining wealth or building a business or growing your career.
[00:03:38] Sometimes it just takes time, and we just got to get into the mode of doing the basics, that 1% improvement every day and focus on the positives and come out the other side. But it’s this idea of a continuous health kick that I think is so important. And what I want to discuss today that I think is just as important. Or as part of that continuous health care because a lot of times when I talk about the continuous health kick, we get into, you know, making sure that we’re taking care of ourselves. We’re eating right. We’re training, you know. We’re moving. We’re talking about the physical body.
[00:04:09] But one of things I want to talk about today is the mental aspect of health. The mental health. The stress. The positivity. The negativity. You know, the mind. And if you’re working or not, or you’re just kind of getting into just kind of a vegetative state watching TV. Right? So, when it comes to mental health, it’s something we don’t really talk about much. And I’m talking about proactive mental health. You know, when we talk about mental health, you know, you hear it in the news, there’s a mental health issue in this country, there’s a mental health issue in the world. Well, they’re talking about people that are kind of a little bit off kilter, a little bit a chemical imbalance, something that’s wrong with them. Right? So, they got a mental health issue. You don’t hear anybody really discussing the mental health aspect of it from being proactive, from being on a health kick to keep your mind right. Staying more positive. Creating more intellect by reading and studying and growing your mind. Watching your stress levels and keeping your stress level down. Those things are critical, right?
[00:05:11] But we’re on this constant health kick that I talk about, but we never discuss this mental health aspect. And it’s just as critical. We have physical health. We have mental health. And we have spiritual health, right? And we’ve got to be able to connect to each of those and be working on those consistently. And mental health, I think out of all three of those, mental, spiritual, and physical, mental is the least talked about. It’s the least discussed.
[00:05:37] And if you think about that, then what does it, what does it mean? Well, it’s understanding what is going into your mind. You know, what are you getting? How are you working your mind? Are you working it out, you know, by coming here? You know, and I thank you for being here. It shows who you are. I appreciate you spending 15 minutes every day with me to get your morning started. But what are you doing to work your mind? Well, you’re here. Right? So it’s one thing; you’re listening to something different than what everybody else is. And that’s, I applaud you for that. And then, I ask you to take the next step. How are you managing your stress? Are you understanding what you’re putting into your mind? How are you feeding your mind? What is going in? Remember the old adage in the computer world? Garbage in, garbage out. Right?
[00:06:19] So, we got to make sure that the mental health kick is part of our health kick, and I think that’s critical that we understand that. And that means even the foods and the things that we’re eating. Now on Sunday, we’re going to talk about sacred eating, which is a big part of my life. But if you do one thing- and I was speaking with one of my coaching clients last week before Labor Day and this was one of our big things- just be aware of how you feel after you eat something. So, keep a food diary and understand that this makes me feel sleepy. This makes me feel energetic. This is, this meal makes me feel great. And understand your power foods. Understand what you eat will help you focus or get yourself stronger.
[00:07:02] So, for me, one of my power foods, whenever I’m down a little bit, is I love sashimi. Sashimi is raw fish, and I go to my sushi place, and I get sashimi. And I can eat fish all the time, obviously, we understand you’ve got to, you’ve got to watch the the toxins in them nowadays. You’ve got to be careful with everything in your diet, right? But, but, you know, I have some, some raw salmon. You know, I have some yellow fish. Whatever that the chef actually says is the freshest is usually what I get. I don’t know. For me it just charges me. There’s just something about that that just brings me energy, and I know that works for me.
[00:07:41] Now, here’s a key, key with the health kick. Every body is different. Every single person’s chemical makeup is different. Right? We’re like snowflakes. Every snowflake’s different. Isn’t that the analogy they always use? Right? And so we’ve got to understand how your body works. My body works different than your body. You know, understanding your body, your mind is so critical, and this is something that they don’t teach anywhere. You know, how do you learn? Do you know how you learn? Do you know that you like to listen? Do you like to read? Do you like to watch videos? You know, what are your learning modalities? You see, when you understand yourself, everybody’s different. Right? Are you an extrovert or are you an introvert? You know, do you like to kind of, do you recharge with people around you? Does being around people give you energy or do you get energy by, by getting away from people?
[00:08:33] So, when you start to understand yourself a little bit differently, now you can understand stress. You can understand your health. You can understand the mental aspect of things. Again, understanding you’re, the way that you work is what is so critical. That’s why I believe that you got to understand and do your own kind of research on yourself. That’s why I like to get my own blood tests and understand what’s going on in my blood work. I like to understand how I’m feeling. I like to track that mentally. Am I sharp? Am I not sharp? Why does this work? Why does that not work? Because at the end of the day, everybody’s different. Right?
[00:09:10] So, I’m not going to play a doctor here. I’m not. And that’s the first thing I’ll tell you. Go to your health care professional. Very important. We have to always give you that caveat. You know, in coaching, there’s kind of three areas, right? There’s therapy, which I don’t do. That’s licensed, and there’s therapists out there that can help you with that. There is coaching. It’s kind of in the middle, and that’s, you know, we listen, we help you, we keep you going forward. That’s what we do. And then there’s consulting, where we tell you what to do. And Morning Coach is kind of coaching-consulting. It’s not in the therapy. Right? So, with our modern medical practices, most doctors, most medical professionals are there to treat you. What we’re doing here at Morning Coach, we’re trying to be a little more proactive and not get into the treatment area. And so, we’re not doctors and never will be doctors. We’re not here to treat or help you with any specific thing, but we’re here to help you understand yourself. And that’s what’s so critical.
[00:10:07] Be proactive with your health and your wellness. Get to know what’s going on with your own body, and then go to the health care professionals to get the answers and to get the, get the help. You know, I go to the local lab, and I get my blood work, and I look at it and I can read it. I could understand what’s going on with cholesterol, all that stuff. I’ve educated myself. But then if I need something, obviously, I go to the health care professional. That’s very important. My, my surgeon who’s working on my dental procedure, Tamir Segal. Amazing, amazing. I trust him with my life. I go in there, he tells me what to do. He is a health care professional. Right? I know. And, you know, will I do my research? Yes, I’ll do my research on what’s going on, and what we’re doing and understand the procedure. But at the end of the day, I trust him.
[00:10:54] So, the bottom line is when it comes to your mind and it comes your health is that we’ve got to protect it by knowing what works for us. Understanding what your blood type is. Knowing how your body works. You know, it’s just like investing. There’s two things that really irk me a little bit. I’m just going to be candid with you. One of them is our health and our wellness that we allow other people to really take control of those areas when we really should know what’s going on. Doesn’t mean we treat ourselves. It just means we understand ourselves. What’s happening in our own bodies, right? What’s happening in our own mind? How do we feel? What works for us? What doesn’t work? And get to know ourselves.
[00:11:34] And the other one is investing. You know, it’s another thing, you know, we tend to take our 401k’s and just hand them to somebody. Now, I have one 401k, and full disclosure, that I have an investment person that uses it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t understand investing in all areas, whether it’s cryptocurrency that I’m playing around with, or whether it’s the stock market, or whether, you know, whatever. It’s my wealth at the end of the day.
[00:11:57] So, your health and your wealth, we tend to, in our society today, let other people control those things. And, if you think about that, it’s like, wow, what really gives them the ability to do it? Can we trust them to take care of our health and our wealth? And so, education in those two areas is, is wealth. And that’s what I’m talking about today is getting yourself in a place where you understand yourself. That’s it. Understand yourself. Don’t let other people take control of those areas. And over time, you will get to know what works for you and what doesn’t. How do you heal? How do you, how did things work? What’s worked for you in the past? And that education, you can give to your health care professional. Understanding the market. Understanding the way you invest. Understanding things, then you can give that to your financial adviser. It’s just knowing enough in all areas of your life, really, will help you have a better life. And I just, you can tell, I want you to understand this. Just understand enough. You don’t have to understand everything, just understand enough. And then yield to the professionals when you need to, and you work with them. OK?
[00:13:03] So, health is wealth. And that’s what we’re getting to today. And the two areas or three areas are spiritual, physical, and mental. And the mental is the most abused one. So, we want to want to make sure we understand it. It’s the most neglected one. I could say abused too. But we want to get to understand what we’re doing. Then we want to understand ourselves. A little about our body and what works for us. And then even our coping.
[00:13:26] Let’s talk about that. You know the elephant in the room. Do you drink to cope? Do you use drugs? Do you, do, you know, to cope? Do you smoke a little weed? Do you, you know, do you smoke cigarettes? Those are coping mechanisms. Why are you needing those? Those are your escapes. I’m not going to sit here and say, “oh, don’t do any of them.” That’s not my position. Where I’m at is just understand them. You know, why do you need that little drink every once in a while to kind of calm down? Do I have one once in a while? Yeah, I’ll have a drink once in a while. Why do you need to use that drug? Why do you need to smoke? Why do you need that pharmaceutical drug that’s in your life? Understand those things. So, that if we can, we can change them to some other holistic type of thing, it would be you know better for you. And we’re going to get into holistic health and why it’s so important.
[00:14:14] But again, just understanding why you’ve got these things in your life. Why do you self-medicate? Is, is, is important. Not saying it’s wrong to self-medicate, especially if you’re, you know, if your medical professional is telling you that. If you’re self-medicating, your medical professional’s not telling you that. But I’m here, I’m telling you to understand it. Understand why you’re doing it. Understand what’s going on. And you could always talk to your health care professional which I think is important. So, let’s get on a health kick, and by health kick, I mean this: understand what you’re putting into your body physically and what you’re eating, what it does to you physically and mentally. Understand the movement that you’re doing and get more movement in your life. Understand your coping mechanisms and why you do that. And then understand your body and how it works and how you work. Or, you know, what is your learning modality? What works for you? Are, does cardio work or does lifting weights? You know, are you introverted? Are you extroverted? Can you answer those questions? That’s what’s critical, because knowing that is going to allow you to really start to shift. And take that to your health care professional and tell them this is kind of what’s working for me. And if you have the right ones- and we’ll get into that too, later, later podcast, Coachcast here- if you have the right ones, they’re going to help you and guide you. Right? And that’s why I want you to find the right ones. And all of that is, is what we need to keep doing to have this consistent health care.
[00:15:43] We always got to be thinking about our health and wealth. Because we don’t want to be like the guy in the poem: “To get his wealth,/ he spent his health/ and then with might and main,/ he turned around and spend his wealth/ to get his health again.” We want to have that health every day. OK? So, let’s get on a health kick. If you’ve got something serious going on, you need treatment or you need advice, go to your local health care professional. And that includes mental and physical. OK? They’re out there. And then get to understand yourself as we move forward. Now, tomorrow we’re going to talk about the morning routine and why that’s so important.
