Episode 2883 What is Joy?
[00:00:00] Good morning and welcome to MorningCoach today, I am so glad you’re with us. As you know, my name is J.B. Glossinger, and this is your personal evolution system, the place to get your day started. Welcome, welcome, welcome, and I’m so glad you’re with me today. It is a Wednesday, and it is awesome because it’s our Deep Day. We get to go down the rabbit hole, and we get to talk a little bit about metaphysics and kind of about why we’re here and what’s going on and, you know, I just love that. I love to get deep. It’s just one of the things that I get joy from. And today we’re going to be talking about “what is joy?” And we’re going to get into the depth of that which I think you’re really going to have some fun with.
[00:00:51] Just a quick note. I actually could use some healing energy my way. If you’ve listened from the start of MorningCoach which, gosh, I think it’s been 11 years- almost 2006, end of 2005, 2006, 11, 12 years ago- when I started this back in the day, back in the 80s when I was playing football, I actually got knocked in the face pretty hard and I lost my front tooth, and when I started this Coachcast, I used to use what was called a flipper. It was this dental thing that you would wear, and it would, you know, I never had the money to get a full implant and do all the work that I needed, and eventually I did that, and I had to do a bone graft and a skin graft, and then I had to get the implant put in. And I, literally, have like a Volkswagen in my mouth, as much money as we’ve spent on it, on this whole procedure. But this was right when I was getting started. So there were a couple Coachcasts, podcasts, that I did that was kind of ::mumbles:: I couldn’t really speak very well because I had dental work done. Well, today at 2:30, I’m going in because the tooth next to it had the same trauma back in the day. It’s catching up to it now. And so I’ve got to go into a… and I can’t remember the name of it… Had to get the sheet here, endodontic. Endodontic. Endodontic? I guess it is? Endodontics. Oh dear. En-do-tonics. I can’t even say it, but it’s in between the surgery which is what my surgeon sent to me who did the original implant and a general dentist. These guys kind of know how to see if we can save the tooth or not. And I’m going in at 2:30 today to see what I’m going to be doing. So I’m hoping I don’t have to do a, more than likely it’s going to be a root canal, but hopefully if, if we can do that, that’s great. If not, I might have to do another implant, and I am not looking forward to that at all.
[00:02:41] So, I could use some energy today. If you don’t mind. Not really feeling joy, but you know what? You just got to… it is what it is, and, you know, you’ve got to get through it whether it’s a root canal or whether it’s, I got to go full implant, whatever. I’m ready to go through it but could use a little energy this way. And also, you know, as we know, we need to be sending energy down to that Houston area. It’s been pretty nasty down there, and we’ve got a lot of listeners and a lot of MorningCoachers down in Texas, and we want to make sure we’re sending some energy that way.
[00:03:11] Today’s Coachcast, not really a way to start off a joy Coachcast as I’m telling you about my dental issues. But you know what? That’s what it is here. I tell you everything, and I have no secrets. I can’t hold it back. I’m with you every day, right? So I got to, I got to keep you informed. And so, but we’re going to get away from that and get into some joy aspects because I do love joy. And, really, you can find joy in life and even in some of these processes that you have to go through. Even like the dental stuff that I’m going through, I can find some joy in knowing that I got great doctors and friends around me that are helping me and guiding me to what I need to do. And I actually find joy in that. I find joy in the fact that, you know, I’ve been able to surround myself with people that really care and I do. Tamir Segal is my- and again I don’t know all these dental terms- but he’s my oral surgeon. He’s, he’s a gum specialist, and I know we have a lot of dentists that listen, but he’s an amazing, amazing surgeon. And I’m happy he’s in my life because he takes care of me. When I need something, I go see him. And it’s nice. So you can find joy in knowing that you’ve got people around you, or that you’re able to manifest people around you that help you and move you forward. You can find joy in that. And as I’ve been saying the last couple of days as we talked about happiness, I find joy in just the littlest things. Being able to do this every day, I find joy.
[00:04:31] But what really is joy? I believe it’s that, that happiness that you have inside of your heart that you know that life is moving forward, that you’re on the right path, and that you are at peace. And I really feel that’s what true joy is. When you can sit quiet as, in a room, and just be at peace. That’s just total joy. And you deserve that joy. I know a lot of people feel they don’t deserve, and maybe they were raised like I was, Catholic, and they’re raised that they were a sinner and they don’t deserve to have a joyful life. And the truth is you do deserve to have a joyful life. That’s why we’re here. We’re here to experience all things, and part of those things, you know, that we need to experience is joy, this happiness, this true abundance in our heart, this overflowing of peace which is so critical. And I think in understanding joy, you recognize how deep it can be, how awesome it can be, when you sit there quietly at peace, how awesome that you can feel this joy.
[00:05:30] Now, in order to feel more joy, sometimes you have to go through things in order to be able to feel it. Kilger Bron, and I’m paraphrasing this, says, you know, to experience ultimate joy, sometimes you have to experience ultimate pain. Because it’s kind of the yin and the yang. If you didn’t go through some of the heartbreaks and some of the things that have happened to you, you really wouldn’t know what it’s like to have the better things in your life and to feel the real joy that you get when you’ve been through some challenges. You know, I’ve been very fortunate to have some misfortune in my life. You know, not everything has worked out the way it was supposed to with me. You know, my career had some ups and downs. I got into a career that really didn’t bring me satisfaction. I was frustrated by it. And through those challenges, through those 60 hour weeks, through those miserable days having to get up and go to a job that I hated and just make it through it, really gives me more pleasure today in knowing I don’t have to do that anymore. So sometimes our misfortune can lead us to joy because we can see what we don’t want, and we can get to where we want, and you can find joy in it.
[00:06:38] Got to be very cautious about taking for granted the things that are in your life and not appreciating them. You know, yesterday I was, I’m on a special diet was Sir. We’re doing this coconut thing and no carbs, and it’s a real intense diet for a month. And, you know, I just sent him a text and said, “Man, I really appreciate you being in my life.” Sometimes we don’t even realize who’s in our backyard and who’s helping us. You know? And we take a lot of things for granted and that steals your joy, you know? And I want you to find joy in knowing that you have people around you that care that you have an opportunity in this lifetime to do things and to really write your story. Because that’s what it is. This is a journey.
[00:07:21] Now, you can, it’s OK to change the story. Like, every day you can start a new chapter. You know, we all have chapters in our life. You know, I had a chapter in my life which was aerospace, and I did that for a while. I had a chapter of my life where we grew MorningCoach in a certain way, and, you know, I wasn’t coaching, and now I’m coaching again, and that’s another new chapter in my life, and I’m loving it. This year was a new chapter; I started a whole new chapter. Next year, as we come into 2018, I’ll be starting another chapter. You know, I’ll be doing Kick Start Your Year. We’re going to do M/M, you know, Mindfulness and Meditation for Busy Professionals, and then we’re going to go right into Kick Start Your Year. And I’m going to help you go into 2018 starting a new chapter or starting a new whole new book if you want to! That’s what’s great about life, is getting that chapter or getting that new story going. And when you start to realize that your life is this journey, that it is this story, that can bring you joy.
[00:08:16] And I think that’s what’s so critical about understanding the deeper aspects of life and realizing we’re here to experience and to find joy in the experience of life, find joy in the pain, which is always, you know, crazy. People say, “J.B., what are you talking about?” Because I know if I experience some pain, I can feel some joy. Right now I’m dealing with this dental issue, and it’s, it’s crazy how the focus and the attention is there. And I’m like, “man, it’s not so painful, it’s just uncomfortable.” Right? That’s what I’m going through. And I just want to get back to where I’m feeling comfortable again. So this pain is actually going to lead me to joy when the dentist, or whatever procedure we end up doing, brings me back to the, the painless days, you know, the less uncomfortable days with the dental procedure. And I can find joy in that like, “wow, I can’t wait til I don’t feel this anymore, and I can feel good again.” Which I know I will, and I will have, I will take joy in the fact that I feel good again. See how that’s a different kind of mindset and philosophy? So write your story, and understand, you know, that this is an experience that you’re going through.
[00:09:22] The other thing that I would tell you is that we need to watch our beliefs and understand what our beliefs, you know, watch those beliefs. Do they serve you or do they not serve you? Again, growing up Catholic and thinking constantly that I’m a sinner is not a belief that serves me. Again, this is whatever your personal belief is and maybe you believe you’ve been forgiven, whatever, but just that belief doesn’t serve me. And also the belief that I could go to hell, that doesn’t serve me from a joyful perspective. You know, a lot of that stuff, I think, is translated differently, and I just don’t believe it. I don’t believe that a god of love would damn me to hell for the rest of my, for the rest of my eternity. I just believe that there’s an energy that we’re here to experience and that we’re going to go on to something even better. And that’s just what my personal belief is. But check your beliefs. Do your beliefs bring you joy or do your beliefs bring you misery? In all things you do. Do you believe the world is evil? Do you believe that the world is collapsing? You know, these beliefs can steal your joy. Do you get caught up in all the news and all the negativity that’s out there? Is there challenges? Yes. Are there difficult things going on? Yes. But do you get caught up in them? I choose to focus on the good things in life. Even though I train and do some of the most difficult training there is, and I train with, you know, Tavors and Glocks and knives and guns and disarms and some of the most challenging things that you can do. But I focus on the good things. Those things are things that I do to prepare, things that I do to stay in shape, to stay mentally focused. And, worst case scenario, if something did happen, I don’t choose to focus on that, but I do prepare. Same thing: I live in South Florida. I don’t choose to focus on the hurricane that could possibly come through here and worry about it and chew my nails all day. I prepare. I have everything that I need, and then I focus on the beautiful weather and the life that God has given me. And that’s the difference. So the preparation doesn’t have to take you to the negative, preparation just means you’re ready for any situation. OK? So understand your beliefs.
[00:11:31] The other thing I think is critical is you can choose joy. Like, this is a choice. You can choose to be happy, or you can choose to be sad. It’s really a choice. And the depth of joy runs into choice. And I think a lot of people choose the misery. They choose that angle because that is where they’re comfortable. They’re comfortable in the negative. It brings drama. It allows them to talk about something. It allows them put their attention in something. Sometimes the happiness and the good stories, a lot of people don’t want to discuss. Because the ego is generally negative. Why is the ego negative? Because we tend to be 51 percent or more negative. Most people, that’s where they’re at. Right.? They haven’t flipped the switch to 51 percent positive in their mindset. So they tend to be more negative, so they choose the negative. And we want to get away from that. OK. So choose joy.
[00:12:23] Also, we want to find faith. We want to have our faith in something greater. Like I always say, “The greater good is conspiring for me. The greater good is conspiring for you.” That is a belief that serves a positive situation. A Course in Miracles. A belief. I can choose peace instead of this. Finding peace is a belief. It’s something that will help you. So do that.
[00:12:44] Again, talked about this yesterday focusing on gratitude. It’s really hard not to have joy when you’re grateful for the life and the things that have been brought into your life. You know, I talk about spiritual eating once in a while. It’s been a while since I brought that up, but sacred eating or spiritual eating, when you come to the table and you just give blessings to the plant or the animal that is giving you sustenance and giving you food. It’s a different way to eat. You can find joy in the food that’s being prepared for you and be thankful that it’s been brought to you. Right? So focus on gratitude. Be grateful for the life that you’ve been given. Be grateful for your children. Be grateful for your parents. Be grateful for your significant other, your spouse or your partner. Bring that gratitude into life and everything changes. Be grateful for the business you’ve been given. Be grateful for the job that you have. Be grateful for the bills that come into your life. Be grateful, again, for the pain because. you know, that pain is going, you’re going to break through it. And when you start to be a little more gratitude for just all things in life and the experience that you’ve been given, you can start to shift your thought process, which is really important.
[00:13:51] A little fun thing that you can do. You could put together a dream board or a bliss board or a happiness board where you put things up there that make you happy and remind you of happiness. I love that. You know, I love putting quotes up and and putting, you know, different things that make me happy up. I’ve got all my Dungeon & Dragons stuff all over my office. If you would see it, Max Caliber poster. I mean, I got a lot of cool stuff. I’ve got Groot in here. Those things make me happy. They bring me joy. I got my 2XL robot from the early ’70s. It plays 8 tracks tapes. You know, I got books, all kinds of books from MorningCoach members that have have written books and sent them to me. I love it. I got my Raiders stuff up there. You know, I’m a big Raiders fan. Those are things that bring me joy. I got Chaos and Nico, both of their boxes. You know, since their physical presence is left, they’re lookin’ at me every day, you know? But bring things into your life that are going to bring you joy and surround yourself with them. And you’ll find that joy isn’t a secret. It’s there for you, but you just gotta have some gratitude. You just got to really start focusing on it, and you got to choose joy. And you can. And the deeper you get and the more faith that you have is going to allow you to have more joy in your heart. And it’s going to have it going to allow you to have more joy in your life which is going to manifest more amazing things for you. And that’s what we’re doing here as I bring you this every day. All right? So let’s go have a great day. Let’s put some joy in our hearts. Tomorrow we’re going to talk about the cause of happiness and others. It’s going to be a good day. Today focus on your joy and allow it to come. OK? I love you. I do. Get out there. Have a great day, and I will be back with more right here tomorrow to get your day right, started right, at MorningCoach.com. Get out there and have an amazing day.
