Episode 2881 The Keys to Happiness and Peace.
[00:00:03] Good morning and welcome to Morning Coach today. I am so glad you’re with us. As you know, my name’s J.B. Glossinger, and this is your personal evolution system, the place to get your day started right. Welcome, welcome, welcome, and I’m so glad you’re with me today as we get ready to start the week. As you know, Mondays are about organization. They’re about motivation and really get us to that next level. And we’re getting ready to end the month, right? We’re coming to the end of August. I want to, you know, get you ready for September. I can’t believe it’s already the fall. Time is just flying. But we’re going to end the month on a high note. We’re going to rock this idea of happiness and peace and joy and really get into it this week. And next week we’re going to get back into that kind of health and fitness and kind of move into that area. But really excited about this week.
[00:00:58] Just a real quick, quick note. I want to send a little love and energy out to all of our Morning Coaches down in Texas, Louisiana, everybody being affected by the hurricane down there. It’s pretty nasty. I know Doug’s down there. Buckley. We’ve got a lot of people. Sherri. There’s a lot of people down there, and, you know, hopefully you’re getting through that. Being here in South Florida, knowing what that’s like, I understand how challenging that can be. So if you are not in the area, if you could send them some energy that would be great, and let’s help them get through that kind of recovery that they have to deal with this upcoming week as they deal with some of the flooding and some of the stuff that’s happened down there.
[00:01:37] This week, like I said, we’re going to talk about the keys to happiness and peace. So that’s what we’re going to talk about today and go over a few of them for you and we’re going to rock it. Tomorrow, I’ve got a really good story about chasing a tail, Chasing the Tail. So you’re going to like that. On Wednesdays, our deep day, you know, we get metaphysical, and we’re out talk about “What is Joy?” “What really is joy?” and “what is it about?” Thursday, our kind of our, it’s kind of our book study day but I haven’t done a book study because I’ve really been doing a little more courses. We may get back into some of that, but Thursday we’re going to talk about “cause of happiness and others” and “How do we help others?” which you will like that. Friday, we’re going to be talking about “Does money buy happiness?” And of course, we know the answer to that, but I’m going to get into it a little deeper. And then Saturday, our systems day, the joy system that I have. Sunday, our spiritual day, we’re going to talk about spiritual joy. So great week planned for you. Excited about this. There are some major things coming, too, by the way, since Intelligent Life Design is up. You can work through all the videos. The next course is going to be M/M and it’s going to be on a Mindfulness Meditation for Busy Professionals. I’ve had this requested by a lot of people, and it’s going to be really, really a great one. In order for you to really connect, and we’ve got, I mean, I just can’t wait to get this out there, and what we’re going to be doing. There’s going to be some daily activities. There’s some, there’s some texts that go along with it. Little bit different than ILD which is where I’m just teaching kind of a philosophy. this is really an in-depth study, and we’re going to do it together. So it’s going to be awesome. Can’t wait for that. Look for some announcements that’ll be coming up soon. And as I mentioned the other day, February- the end of February- next year is the next retreat, and I’ll be sending out an e-mail on that. So look for that.
[00:03:19] OK. So let’s get into today and talk about happiness and peace. And there’s some kind of, some basic tips. A lot of people always ask me, “J.B., why are you so happy?” And I am. I mean, I just love my life. I take it on, day by day, as there are problems and challenges, of course. But, you know, generally, when most people meet me, they say, “Gosh you’re so happy. I wish I had your energy.” And the reason that I have that is because of these things. And I’m going to go through them. And again, do I have challenges? Yes. Challenges come up all the time. All the time. And I, you know, it’s just, is what it is. Like, right now, we’re going through and transcribing all of the CoachCasts, and, you know. I can kick myself in the rear end because I should have done this years ago. We’ve got, you know, 2,880, you know, that are being transcribed, and we’re putting them up for what’s called Search Engine Optimization. But as we got into our site we recognize we have to rebuild it. It’s, I mean, it’s taking a lot of resources and time, but it’s going to come out really nice. But it’s challenging, right? And it’s just, is what it is. So, you know, I have challenges as much as anybody else. I just got to step back, and I just, I just love life.
[00:04:29] And so what do I do when I have those challenges? I ground myself in gratitude. The first thing that I do every day, I open my Sacred Six Journal, and I write the AM to AM gratitude section. It is the first thing. I think if you’re going to have happiness and joy and more peace in your life, the foundation is gratitude. You’ve got to appreciate the life you’ve been given. And I think when you don’t appreciate it, you’re kind of spiting God and the universe. Right? You’re saying, you know, “This is my life. I don’t like it. It’s not working for me.” And I think that’s the number one area that’s really just stopping, you know, from you, from having just true joy. So, as we get started today, you know, I really would like you to get in the habit of writing down things that you’re grateful for in the morning. Two to three things, that’s it. You know, it’s amazing. It’s hard to be depressed and sad and frustrated when you’re grateful. And it’s really one of the secrets of living life is just be grateful for everything in your life. Stop taking things for granted. You know, even if you’ve got a nice bed to sleep in. You know, a lot of times when you travel, you can go and see people that don’t have opportunity and they have a little bit of misfortune, right? And it just, you appreciate things that you, you have.
[00:05:41] And sometimes you can go see speakers. You know, I’ve got a lot of friends that I’ve interviewed, people like Nick Voinovich who’s unbelievable. Who, you know, was born really without, without his arms and his legs, and he’s a motivational speaker. And, you know, when I interviewed him and spoke with him he was just so awesome and he and you meet him and it’s like gosh I’m just fortunate to have my arms and my legs. Not everybody has that, right? I’m fortunate to have my eyesight. And so, it’s not that we feel sorry for those people, we have compassion for them, right? And we hold them up. I mean, there are so many strong people that, you know, have dealt with blindness and dealt with loss of limbs. And, for me, it’s just, they just, I honor those people and respect them. And at the same time, I’m just grateful that I have the gifts that I’ve been given which is the sight and the taste and the smell and the hearing and the ability to move, right? And so, we appreciate people that are going through challenges. And appreciate what you’ve been given. Right? And I think sometimes we take it for granted, and it’s, it can be a sad thing.
[00:06:51] I remember once, I was teaching elementary school, and, you know, back when I first was a, when I left college the second time and went back to substitute teaching. And I used to substitute teach this gym, and, I’ll never forget, we’d run the kids around to tire them out before we would take them back to class. And I had a class in there, and they were running, and the kids would always complain. You know, there would always be one kid that loved it- right?- because he liked gym. Now a lot of them didn’t like gym, and then they would cut corners, and I would be like, “Don’t cut corners!” and they’d get so angry and frustrated. And you could tell it was like just like hell to them like, “oh my gosh, it’s the worst thing ever that we have to run around the gym.” Right? And I’ll never forget, the double doors of the gym opened up and a young man came in with the help of a girl that was helping him, and he had leg braces on both legs. He couldn’t run. He had trouble walking. He had crutches, and he came in, he had those crutches that were on his arms, and he leaned up against the wall. And he just looked at the kids. And I looked at the kids, and they were complaining. And all this boy, this little boy wanted to do was just run, and he couldn’t. He couldn’t. And it devastated me. It was one of those life changing moments where I saw the sorrow in his eyes that he would just love to take those leg braces off and run one time, kind of like Forrest Gump in the movie did. Right? He ran and the leg braces came off? And he couldn’t do that. And so these people were complaining, these other kids were complaining about something that was a gift to them. So be very cautious about that. And that’s one of the reasons that we don’t find a lot of joy because we start complaining about things that are actually a gift. And it’s a scary place, I know. I mean, I know we want more. I know we want to have better lives, but be very cautious about what you’re complaining about. OK? Very important.
[00:08:38] OK. Couple other things that I want to go over that’re going to bring you more happiness. Again, having gratitude every morning. Please make that commitment. Couple other things. Being mindful is so critical. Being mindful and present. And we’re going to get into this, into this as we, you know, discuss this M/M course. It’s going to come up in a few weeks. And, you know, when I get into courses, I get into things really deep. And so ,we’ll be doing a little bit of this on the CoachCast, too. But the more mindful and more present you become, the more joy and the more peace you can have. And it’s one of the critical things as we manage energy and peace that we become more mindful. OK? I’m going to help you do that, and we’re going to work on that. But just focus on that and bring that to your awareness.
[00:09:22] Couple other things. You need to manage your life and your time. I’m not going to talk about time management because you know I don’t like it. I’m about focused management. But we still need to manage our life and our time. We have to take control and prioritize the things that we are going to focus on and what we’re going to do. That goes back to the Sacred Six. So, why am I happy? Because I can manage my energy, and I manage my peace, and I focus my time where I want to focus it. OK? And so, when you start to do that, you start to manage your life and time. And it’s a very, very powerful thing. That’s why the Sacred Six works. So, make sure that, you know, if you haven’t had a chance to read through the book or do the exercises or get the journal, that you’re back on that a little bit. But manage your life and time. Very important.
[00:10:06] Understand expectations and goals. This is a big one. We have to set proper expectations. We have to proper… set proper goals. I’m all about hairy, audacious goals. I’m all about big goals. Right? I love those, and those, those stretch goals. But really, be very cautious with your expectations, and don’t get down because you never know why you’re on the path that you’re going. You know, you’ll hear me say this sometimes, that the best thing that ever happens to somebody sometimes is losing their job because they got to recreate themselves, got to figure out what they’re going to do, and it brings them out; it brings out who they truly are. And so, really understand, you know, what are your expectations that you’re going into thing? I always say, “Look, I’m from La Porte, Indiana. Real small town. It doesn’t take much to make me happy. And I love that belief. I love that belief. I can look out my window right now. I look at the canal that’s flowing, and I look at the green and the palm trees. I’m just a kid from Indiana. Man, I’m loving this thing. I’m down in Florida. Yesterday, I was walking Neco and Blough. Blough’s- my wife’s sister Margarita, you might have met- Margarita’s dog, right? So, I was baby-sitting yesterday, and I was walking And I just had that moment like, “Man, you’re in Florida. This is awesome.” I used to go outside and lay out in the sun in Indiana in the summer and that the only times we got sun. And I would just, and I would just, just dream of being in warm weather. Right? Now I live here. It’s my home. And so, you know, I just, I want you to, to understand that aspect of life is just, just enjoy it. Keep things simple, and it makes things so much better.
[00:11:43] OK. Couple other things. You need to take on a morning routine. I would be remiss if I didn’t discuss a morning routine. We need to have morning routines. We need to really, really connect in the morning. And, obviously, Morning Coach, that’s why I’m here. That’s what this is about. Making sure that you’re getting up, and you’re getting the right energy every day to start your day. Getting the right attitude. The right mindset makes such a big difference in your life. OK? And that includes, you know, getting a coach. Having the right coach in your life can make all the difference in the world. And that’s why I’m here. I’m here to coach you, whether I coach you just from Morning Coach, whether I coach you in the courses that I do, or I coach you personally. I’m here to help, OK? And we’re to keep rocking it together. Sometimes you need a check up from a neck up. This is my old mentor Zig Ziglar. Love him to death. Rest in peace, Zig. You know, he used to say, “Get a checkup from the neck up,” and that’s what we’re doing every morning. Getting the right attitude, having that right attitude as we keep going. Right?
[00:12:40] We’re going to keep our focus on health and well-being. As I mentioned, as we move into September, that’s going to be our focus. We’re really going to get our health and well-being in order. I’m on this new coconut oil thing that I’m doing with Sir, and I’m really on this awesome diet. We’re going no carbs, and this… supplements on the way… It’s a really, really awesome thing I’m doing with Sir right now. I’m feeling, feeling really good, but I’m focusing on health and well-being and really would like you to do that too.
[00:13:06] We need to learn to give and receive. I think a lot of us get the giving part down but we forget the receiving part. In order to have ultimate joy and happiness, you need to be able to give and receive. OK? And you need to give more. Giving really brings joy. It brings peace. It brings happiness. I get my happiness from helping others. I know that. Right? And I enjoy giving, but in the right way. I love to see people blossom and reach their potential. It’s awesome. But we’ve got to learn to give and receive. OK? Couple others here as we close today and get you ready to get going. You need to accept yourself. No matter what’s going on in your life. You know, that self-love. Accept yourself. You are who you are. It is what it is. Right? Just take who you are, and be the best you that you can possibly be.
[00:13:56] And finally, we need to work to find a deeper purpose. And again, when M/M comes out, that’s a big part of this. You know, we’ve got ILD. We’ve got M/M. We’ve got Sacred Six. These are kind of the foundational courses that we put together to help you really structure things and get yourself in a good position. Right? So, M/M is coming up next, and it’s mindfulness and really getting to that point of, you know, understanding what that is. Using meditation and connecting to really the deeper aspects of life.
[00:14:24] So, we’re going to have a great week together. It’s going to start off with a great day today. Let’s go out there and make it happen. If you haven’t had a chance, go on iTunes and subscribe, rate, and review the podcast. I really would appreciate that. We’re getting it out to the world. We’re growing very fast and a lot of that has to do with your help, and I appreciate you for that. Let’s keep doing it. And if you need anything, you know where to get us: email@example.com. But really, out of everything that I’ve said this morning, let’s focus on gratitude and really set the foundation for that. All right? So, I love you. Get out there. Have a great day. I will be right back here to get your morning started tomorrow. Let’s go after it, and let’s make it an awesome day.
