[00:00:12] Good morning! And welcome to Morning Coach, today. I am so glad you’re with us. As you know, my name’s J.B. Glossinger, and this is your personal evolution system. This is the place to get your day started right. Welcome, welcome, welcome! And I’m so glad you’re with me today as we’re rockin’ and rollin’, having some fun this week, kind of discussing why we don’t do what we know we should do. Right? And that’s important that we started doing what we know we should do. And part of that has to do with this idea of dealing with uncertainty.
[00:00:46] You know, in life we don’t know really all the time exactly what’s going to happen. We can have the best laid plans and then all of a sudden it doesn’t work out that way. You know, there’s an old joke that says if you don’t believe God has a sense of humor, just tell him your plans, right? Because it just always seems to change from where we think we’re going. And I’m not saying not to have plans- we need to have plans- but we need to be open to different possibilities and things that are going to happen in our life, and that means we need to deal with uncertainty in a different way. Now, I’m super excited because I’ve got some big things coming up that are going to help you with this, but I’ve got some tips for you today. But we’ve just got to start to become a little more comfortable with the uncomfortable, and I know it sounds crazy, right? Comfortable with the uncomfortable. You know, when there’s a little bit of change going on, we’ve got to be able to handle that and then continue to do what we need to do. And so there are some things that we can do right now that can start to help us handle this uncertainty and start to do more things that we know we should do, and one of those is to practice mindfulness.
[00:01:52] Now this is an area that I’ve been working hard on this year, and I’ve been working hard on it basically since I came and started Morning Coach and really started helping other people and going down the metaphysical route. And mindfulness is that awareness, being able to get in the moment and not be distracted. You know, a lot of people ask me why I train with Sir Mike Lee Kineret. Can I do the real hardcore stuff? In fact, I just signed up for a 30 hour, no food, no sleep training. It’s going to be crazy. It’s going to be crazy, and people say, “Why do you do that?” Well, because it allows me to stretch my mind. It allows me to deal with uncertainty. It allows me to focus and really get away from life for a little while when I get into my training, and that’s really kind of a mindfulness activity. The other area that a lot of people discuss mindfulness is meditation, right? Being able to quiet that mind. Slow it down enough so that you can connect with the good energy. Like, you could connect with the positive energy so you can quiet all that noise and release that stress and get into that moment. And meditation is another one. But what I’ve found over the last few years really getting into it more myself is that a lot of busy people have issues with this. They don’t really understand what mindfulness is. They see a lot of people, you know, use it in yoga, and they see a lot of people use it in, you know, like in the lotus posture, but in the business world, in the material world, there’s a lot of people that struggle with this concept.
[00:03:21] So what I’m going to do- and this is important- I’m just going to let you know what’s coming up is, you know, we’ve just finished intelligent life design. I’m going to be continuing to add to that course. You can just go at your own pace, go watch some videos once in awhile. That’s cool. But the next course that I’m going to do is called “M and M,” and why I’m calling it M and M is because it’s going to be based on meditation and mindfulness for busy people. And I really think this course is going to rock. I’m super pumped. They’re going to have some challenges like “we need to meditate every day.” We’re going to set it up in the community, and we’re going to really, really work this because I really want to help you get this down. I want you to understand what this means between, you know, how it works and really understand meditation, mindfulness, attention, how you slow your mind down, and then how you do it practically for busy people. OK, so I’m excited about that. I’m sure Andy Donahue who’s one of our meditation experts- he loves this whole topic- is going to be excited about it. But I’m pumped to bring this to you. So keep an eye out for it. I’m taking a little breather after I.L.D., but now I’m coming back, and I’m starting to outline this structure and I’m just pumped. I’ve got some great tasks for you, and it’s going to be a real deep study of meditation and mindfulness. OK, so get ready for that. OK. But I want you to practice mindfulness, and, if you don’t have a good grasp of that, I’m going to have you covered here real soon because I’m going to bring you a course to help you with that: M and M. Meditation and Mindfulness for Busy People. It’s going to be fun.
[00:04:50] The second thing I want you to do is to start to focus on what you can control, not on what you can’t control. OK? And this is an important factor in really living life and not getting too stressed out and upset. So, the Serenity Prayer is a big one that they use a lot in Alcoholics Anonymous, but it’s also just a prayer that I think you can use when you feel things going out of control. And the Serenity Prayer goes like this, “God, give me the Grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, the Courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace.” And then he continues, “Taking, as Jesus did, the sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting You will make the things right if I surrender to Your Will, so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever the next. Amen.” So it does get a little religious, but I think the thing that is really good about it is the beginning: you know, “God, give me the Grace to accept with Serenity”- that’s peace, right?- “the things that cannot be changed, the Courage to change the things that should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish one from the other,” and that’s really what I’m talking about here. It reduces stress. You start to focus on what you can change instead of what you can’t. And so, I want you to focus on that, and that will help you get away from the uncertainty. Somethings you just can’t control. Right? Somethings you can’t control, and those things, you don’t, you just worry about what you can.
[00:06:25] And then a couple of other things I want to work on: stress release. You know, as we start to deal with uncertainty, the more stresses that we have on us, the more it’s difficult to see the truth. Again, understanding mindfulness and meditation. You know, the reason I’m so high on those is because every person that is busy, that’s an executive, needs some way to be clear. Remember, we’re trying to manage energy and peace here. So, if I can slow it down enough and get you clarity, then we can start to relieve stress. Now, all of a sudden, you can make better decisions which, in turn, are going to make your life better, and you’re going to move faster towards what you’re looking for. Right? So, we’ve got to work on stress release. That includes moving, exercising, health kick. You hear me talk a lot about that. But we’ve got to take care of ourselves right. Because if we aren’t moving and taking care of ourselves, we tend to again have more stress, and that doesn’t allow us to release, which then builds up, which doesn’t allow us to be as mindful or aware. And then it gets crazy. Right? So, we want to slow down the noise. And I remember… but I don’t remember the girl’s name… It was back in the 80s. She used to scream, “Stop the insanity!” It was like an infomercial, right? That’s what I’m screaming. Stop the insanity! Slow down, relax, and start to realize that you do have control, and you can handle this uncertainty as you move forward in life.
[00:07:51] A couple other things: I want you to adopt a spiritual point of view. We’ve been talking about Stoicism versus spirituality. A spiritual point of view just simply means that you do believe there is a higher power, that you do believe that things are aligning for you, and that you do believe that you are in the right place at the right time. That spiritual point of view really can make a difference in helping you deal with uncertainty because it allows you to continue to press on in the face of uncertainty because you believe that the greater good is conspiring for you. And that’s what I really feel will help you. So, adopt a spiritual point of view. You want to observe. And again, being more mindful means jumping to the observer. If you haven’t followed a lot of my things, if you’re new, you haven’t read my books, etc., etc., one of the terms I use a lot is “observer,” which really stands for who you are, the spiritual being, the energy that you have, the ability to step back and really take a look at what’s going on in your life and understand and observe. You know, there’s an old saying that I really love that “if you can hear your thoughts, are you the thoughts?” And that’s a deep one, right? So, think about that. It is our deep day today. If you can hear the thoughts, are you the thoughts? Or are you something deeper that is actually listening to the thoughts that you’re thinking? So that’s the observer, and it’s a deeper concept and one you can start to observe. Then you can step back, and you can really handle the uncertainty in front of you. Again, we don’t want to always have uncertainty.
[00:09:21] And one of the things we teach is a Plan, Do, Check, Act, kind of checklist where you plan, you then do it, you check it, and then you act on the results. Very pragmatic way. I come from quality. I come from aviation which had Six Sigma and ISO, all these different quality standards in order for us to make sure that aviation was safe. I come from the maintenance side and from the aircraft manufacturer of parts side, and so my background has a lot of this. And I think it allows me to bring some very practical ideas into the business world as well as, you know, the spiritual side of things, and I’m very fortunate to have that very unique background which is great. So Plan, Do, Check, Act is such a critical, critical, critical system that you can use. You just make a plan, you do it. Then you check on it, check it, and then you act on it. Plan, Do, Check, Act is a great system to use when you’re building your life or business or the things that you’re doing. OK?
[00:10:26] A couple of other things. Replace expectations with plans. One of the big things that holds people back is, you know, the expectation of what is going to happen. You know, what are the expectations that you have with the plans that you’re putting together? Sometimes people get way in front of themselves with their plans, and that leads to uncertainty. Look, just focus on the plan. You know, focus on the plan. Have the vision, have the goal, but focus on the plan. Focus on the activity, and the activity can lead you to where you need to go. But be careful of the expectations. You’ll hear me say this a lot, that we overestimate what we can do in a very small, a small amount of time, and we underestimate what we can do over years. Right? And that’s why people have issues. So, replace expectations with plans. Do the Plan, Do, Check, Act checklist, and it will help you do that.
[00:11:18] Also, we need to understand outcomes and overcome adversity; both of those things are really important. You know, understand sometimes the outcomes come from uncertainty. There’s been a lot of craziness where things have come through, like Monopoly, the game, remember the game Monopoly? That actually came from an engineer that went into the Great Depression, and the engineer couldn’t find a job. So, he developed the Monopoly game. Now, imagine if that engineer would have found a job. Right? If that engineer would have found a job, we wouldn’t have the Monopoly game today. There’s a lot of outcomes that come from uncertainty, and you’ve got to be aware. And this is why mindfulness is important for you to get through that. Also, overcoming uncertainty and overcoming obstacles is very important too because then you know you can handle it.
[00:12:08] You know, I’ve been to the place, back in the 90s, when I had no money and it was a struggle and I couldn’t make it. I look back, and some of those were the best times of my life because I was creating myself. Would I want to go back there? No. But it still was a good part of my life. And overcoming obstacles makes me stronger. Signing up with Sir to do 30 hours of no food, no water, intense training at night in the middle of the night. We start at 6 p.m. on Friday night. We end at 12:00 midnight on Saturday. That means at 3:00 in the morning on a Friday I’m going to be in a lake somewhere. I don’t know what the heck I’ll be doing. Carrying sandbags. All kinds of crazy stuff. Working on disarms and just craziness, right? But why do I do that? Because I know if I can overcome those obstacles in my training, it just makes me better. There’s nothing I can’t face. So, the same thing in life: there are obstacles that come. The more you overcome obstacles, the more you know you can face more uncertainty. So, understand outcomes come from uncertainty sometimes, and understand the obstacles actually can make you stronger. And that’s important. You heard the saying “If it doesn’t kill, it you makes you stronger,” and it’s true.
[00:13:19] And so, take everything that you’ve been doing and everything in your life, and take that experience and start to trust that intuition. Because in that day when we start to become mindful, what I’m working to get you to do and specifically when we get into M and M course is I’m working to get you to trust your intuition again. To know that you have this power inside of you that is helping, driving you towards your goals, towards your dreams. And you can find that by digging in and becoming more mindful. Quieting everything down and finding that peace that’s going to move you forward. OK. So, let’s focus today a little bit on being more mindful. Again, if you have issues with that, I’m coming to help. I’m going to be bringing you the course M and M. It’s going to be great. But realize that uncertainty can be your friend. And don’t allow it to hold you back. OK? Don’t allow it to slow you down. All right. I love you. I do. Let’s go have a phenomenal day. Tomorrow we’re going to talk about the dangers of comfort.
